The "Gap" Is No Theory

I get amused by listening to people project their finite mentality into the infinite world. Time is a creation, just like Adam and Eve. Time is a continuum that has a start and a finish, a beginning and an end. Eternity {infinity} has no beginning or end. You, I or no one else can explain or comprehend the infinite. It is far, far beyond our ability. Let me give you a slide that may help a little.

When we die physically, we leave time and enter eternity where there is no time. There are no calendars or clocks in heaven. We humans keep projecting finite things into the infinite world and they are not there. There are no ten thousand years in heaven; there are no days in heaven because time will no longer exist. Time is coming to an end. The gap between time and eternity is infinite and so is the chasm between finite man and Infinite God. Can you reach out and grab the sun? You know the answer. You can see it, know it is there and feel its influence but you cannot approach it. Even if you found a way, you would not get close. The sun is a consuming fire and you would melt in an instant. I don't know if it is true or not, but someone — I think it was Eddie or David — told me that there is an idiot woman in congress who said that we would eventually land on the sun. Someone said, "How is that possible?" She said, "We will have to go at night." Listen, take my word for it, we are not going to land on the sun.

This infinite gap that we are speaking of can be applied to every aspect of life. Let's begin with the most important which is having a relationship with God. How do we reach Him? We don't — it is impossible — but this is the gospel: He condescended, He came to us in the person of Jesus. There is no way we could ever have gone to Him, but He made a way by sending us a Transport, An Ark, a huge Gospel Ship, A Savior and He will carry us into the infinite realm which for believers is heaven. Folks, this is just the beginning. I can go on and on, but for the sake of time, let us mention only a couple more contrasts. The song, "I Can Only Imagine" captures the idea I have in mind and that is "Worship." When we contemplate the infinite greatness of God there has to be an element of fear or awe and without this, there is no true worship. Thomas Adams, the Puritan said, "If we look up at the infinite glory of our Great LORD, and look down at the vileness of ourselves, we must say by reason of the disproportion between us, there is nothing so suitable to give so Great a God as awe." When we see God high and lifted up like Isaiah, we will worship, we will bow down and no preacher will have to tell us to get on our knees.

One more contrast and I will close. This is the one that bothers me most. There is an infinite gap not only in God's power versus my power, but in God's love versus my love. I do understand the word agape and I do see it in operation in the finite world: it is unconditional, selfless and sacrificial love. I do see it clearly in Jesus and I feel its influence but I do not love to the degree that Jesus loves. I'm sorry but I think He had an edge. I know He is man but He is also God and I am not. I marvel at Him praying for His persecutors. Folks I am not going to lie, I love Jesus — if you can't love Him, who can you love — I love my family and friends, I am even learning to love difficult people who get in my face but I really struggle with marxists and muslims. I am loving some of the poor misguided dems who don't understand what has happened to their party. They think the democrats are for the working man. The democrats are filthy rich and they lean toward marxism and are sympathetic with Islam. They are also for abortion on demand, same sex marriage, legalizing drugs, gender change and only the LORD knows what else. What on this list is Christian?

How do we love them? Jesus gave us a clue: "Father forgive them, they don't know what they are doing." I am serious folks, some of these poor misguided souls would never kill a baby; matter of fact, some of them can't put an animal down. They have compassion on animals. They are not bad at heart, they simply don't know what they are doing. They are not hard to love but those who are driven by hate — they are difficult to love.

Speaking of hate, no one other than Jesus is hated more than our president. Unfortunately some of them profess to be Christians. They should be praying for the man, not hating him. We all should pray for him. They have conspired against him and they are bound and determined to get him out of DC. It would take a miracle for he and the Republic to survive. If I were you, I would pray for that miracle.

Very poor turn out last night which has led me to a decision. We have tried hard to reach out to the Sunday crowd but they let us know, in no uncertain terms, that they are not going to attend our fellowship. We have good workers but I can't keep asking them to do this. We have a small core group who has been faithful but this is so hard on the workers that I am going to abandon the Wednesday night suppers. We will do the Jambalaya Supper on the 28th of October. This will enable us to begin the two service Wednesday on November 4. We will have a 10:30 am service with lunch and a 6:00 pm service.

We will be taking our final offering for THE WORD FOR THE WORLD project this Sunday. We lack $1,103.00 reaching our goal of 108 verses. We can do this folks; if our givers will give just one more verse, we can do it.

Monday October 26…we are hosting THE MORGAN BAPTIST ANNUAL MEETING here at the POINT. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I doubt that we have more than 60 people total. The Annual meetings are poorly attended these days. I have asked the 49ers to help and this will be our October 49er gathering. You do not have to attend the meeting. Just bring your food and join us for lunch. We will get the KFC, drinks and rolls but we need your help with the other things. It will work if we have a servant's heart!

Normally, I have no trouble getting ChatGPT to understand what I want but the slide on ETERNITY/TIME took forever. Not even a liberal can deny infinity, but for some reason, they were struggling to catch the concept.
